Ogallala Aquifer
The Ogallala Aquifer, stretches from Southern South Dakota to North Texas, stretching through the Great Plains region. Although you cannot see the aquifer, it is beneath the ground and serves the water needs to many in the Midwest. The Ogallala aquifer is America's largest fresh water source, it covers 174,000 square miles of land. Many depend on the aquifer. in their everyday lives and it serves many uses. Some of these uses are drinking, irrigation and giving livestock water to drink. Millions of people depend on the aquifer in the United States and Canada. Many farmers and ranchers use the aquifer, for irrigating crops. Others use it for giving their livestock water. The aquifer, is a life sustaining force, for many in the heartland.
