TUSNAMIS IN IRELAND?
What is a tsunami and how are they created?
A tsunami is a large ocean wave created by a huge earthquake or they are called a series of waves caused by a massive displacement of water. They are reached within minutes. They first enter shallow water then they can rise to several feet. Once they hit the devastation is dreadful.
Can Ireland be hit by a tsunami?
Well, yes it can happen because in the past Ireland has been hit by a tsunami. There have been reporting’s of waves to be 50m tall destroying a light house and being unable to repair. People have also been washed off of cliffs by massive waves.
How would people in Ireland prepare for a tsunami? How many steps are there?
1) You must look for signs. Boats will bob up and down. The waves will barley make it to the beach.
2) Now if you can confirm that a tsunami is coming than you must warn every one immediately. You must evacuate everyone immediately.
3) Now you must run. It depends on the tsunami type. Sometimes a mile is not enough. You may need to go further.
4) The first wave might be small, but don’t think that the tsunami is over. Many people think that, go back to the beach and are killed by the second or third wave. You MUST tell the others that it is not over.
5) If you are caught by a tsunami, do not swim against it. You might drown. There will be debris floating through the water like rocks, telephone poles, cars, or whatever. Try to grasp onto one of them but they should be solid in the ground. If you can’t find one or don’t come across one then try to avoid the floating debris. If you can avoid them then you are more likely to survive.
6) Before the tusnami strikes, make an emeregncy kit. Bandages, gauze, toilet paper, pads and energy bars.
7) Try getting to a hurricane shelter.
8) Also pack extra clothes that are dry.
