Flooding:
Flooding is caused by precipitation that flows into the rivers. The Nile River flooded because of too much rain in the area. When the Nile was back to normal, there were many puddles of water in areas of the flood plain. The water was soon absorbed in the soil and the Egyptian farmers planted their crops in this muddy area. In a tropical region perennially watered by rain, is a wilderness of swamps known as the Sudd, in which the river loses half its waters.
The Delta:
A delta is formed when a river spreads ot into smaller streams when it emptys into an ocean. The Nile River Delta is one of the biggest deltas in the world. The delta also covers a lot of Egypt's land. The delta has many streams that flow into the Mediterranean Sea which is where much of Egypt gets its water.
Effects:
The effects the Nile River has on the cities it is by are positive and negative. The positive effects are that Egyptians use a lot of the Nile's water for drinking and piping. Another positive effect is that when the river over flows above its banks farmers use that muddy part for farming. A negative effect is if you live close to the river and it floods. If that happens people's houses will be flooded and you will not be able to live in it anymore.
