Norfolk Island Waves
Norfolk Island is not a very good surfing resource but it is great for fishing in its calm waters. The climate in Norfolk is subtropical witch makes the water pleasant to be in and a lot of surfers would like to enjoy the water but it it is really hard to catch a wave there. If you happen to catch a waves, the waves are great! They say that they have the best wave barrels. Surfers in Norfolk look for breaking waves. Breaking waves are waves that are big tunnels that are not for starters and they try to stay inside of the tunnel as the tunnel is closing from the opposite direction that you are going. You try to get out of the tunnel without the tunnel shutting on you. The connection between waves and surfing is that if you don’t have any waves, you can't surf and if the waves are too big it is challenging to surf. Half built swells are the kind of waves that are great surfing waves. Breaking waves are the hardest waves to surf. Some dangers of surfing are hard waves, sharks, seaweed, and big rocks on the ocean floor. Hard waves are dangerous because if you hit that kind of a wave wrong, you could flip over and keep flipping in the water with the waves. Sharks are dangerous because if you cut yourself on your board or a rock, the blood with attract sharks. Seaweed can be a danger because if your ankle gets caught on it you could get pulled under the water and drown. Big rocks on the ocean floor can be dangerous because if you fall off of your board you could hit your head on a ig rock and loose consciousness. Different waves are approached by going on the smaller waves first to get you out into the far ocean to do this big waves. The surfer rides the top of the waves or in the middle of it depending on what kind of wave it is. Surfers should avoid stormy, calm water, and high undertow. You want to make sure that your water has waves and the waves aren’t to high and that it is a perfect day out. That’s why in Norfolk, the weather is perfect for surfing.
