The Easter Island Tsunami of 2011
The island of Rapa Nui(AKA Easter Island) is a remote island of the coast of Chile. A vacation spot, for most tourists who enjoy tropical, or historical vacations. But then, in the year of 2011, a severe earthquake hit Chile, causing a tsunami in the remote island. The tsunami was expected to make landfalls on the island, and Michelle Bachelet, the Chilean President, confirmed that 78 people were killed in the tsunami and earthquake combined. The level of the tsunamis force is unknown. But the tsunami reached the northern Juan Fernandez Islands.
So, how did the Islanders prepare? How would they prepare for future tsunamis? Well,if I was on Easter Island and lived there all my life, I would defiantly have a special room for tsunami survival. Maybe, the islanders hid in a sealed room, preferably the basement of a hotel, so that way it would be harder for the water to reach them. There are many ways though, that a person could prepare for a tsunami. You could prepare by making a secure room underground. Another way is that you could prepare is by going farther inland so that way you are out of reach of the water. The final way I believe they could prepare is by staying indoors before the tsunami struck. So, that is the Easter Island Tsunami of 2011 and how the islanders could prepare for it.
